L.A. Mayor Imposes Curfew Following Protests Over Dead Of George Floyd

Mayor Eric Garcetti is imposing a curfew on the city of Los Angeles amidst protests regarding the death of Geroge Floyd in cities across the country.

The curfew will be in effect from 8:00 PM through 5:00 AM in downtown L.A. The areas affected are between the 110 Freeway on the west, the 10 Freeway on the south, the 101 Freeway on the north and Alameda on the east.

"We will always protect free speech and Angelenos’ right to live without fear of violence or vandalism. To increase safety for demonstrators, law enforcement and all citizens of Los Angeles, we are putting a curfew in place from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.," the mayor wrote on Twitter. "Currently, the curfew will apply to downtown Los Angeles between the 110 fwy on the west, Alameda on the east, and 10 fwy on the south, and 101 fwy on the north between 8 p.m. and 5:30 a.m."

A crowd gathered at Pan Pacific Park, Saturday, where an LAPD car was reportedly set on fire in the nearby area of Fairfax Avenue and Beverly Boulevard. 

533 people were arrested Friday night by the Los Angeles Police Department.

Other large scale protests have continued in cities across the United States.
