J Dilla "Donuts" Track At Center Of Netflix Copyright Infringement Lawsuit: Report

The world may have lost J Dilla 14 years ago, but his name is at the center of a recently filed lawsuit. Three days after releasing his album Donuts, J Dilla passed away from cardiac arrest in connection with lupus and pneumonia. The 32-year-old Detroit emcee's career continues to be celebrated in hip hop circles and beyond, and a court will soon be revisiting Donuts after the 1970s English rock group 10cc has claimed that the late rapper sampled their track, “The Worst Band in the World," without permission.

According to Pitchfork, J Dilla's "Workinonit" is the track in question. It was recently used by Netflix for two of Dave Chappelle's comedy specials and documents state that “J Dilla did not seek or obtain a license to use the Composition in any fashion.”

Apparently, there has been communication between 10cc and Netflix, but “the parties have been unable to reach any resolution, thus requiring the filing of this action.” It's unclear what monetary settlement the band is seeking, but they reportedly included in their documentation that they want a court to “destroy or deliver up for destruction all materials in Defendants’ possession, custody, or control used by defendants in connection with Defendants’ infringing conduct.”

Listen to the two tracks below.

The record label owner and music producer boasts accolades such as being named Best International DJ three times by the DJ Awards. The news of the accusations against Morillo sent shockwaves through the DJ and Miami music circles, and after being arrested, Morillo was released on $25K bond.

The incident allegedly took place in December 2019 and the woman claimed that she went to his home after they DJ'd a party. She told police that she was intoxicated, rejected his sexual advances, and eventually fell asleep. The woman alleges that when she woke up, she didn't have any clothes on and Morillo was standing next to her nude. She called the police, was taken to a treatment center for rape victims, and was given a rape kit. Morillo reportedly told police that he didn't have sex with the woman and gave investigators a sample of his DNA. After testing the woman's kit, Morillo's DNA was matched and he was arrested. He was set to appear in court on Friday.

Mariah Carey Recalls "Extremely Uncomfortable" Ellen DeGeneres Exchange In 2008

There have been many cringeworthy moments on television, especially awkward interview moments, including one that came courtesy of Mariah Carey and Ellen DeGeneres. The popular talk show host has been the subject of scrutiny in recent years as growing accusations have caused a recent firestorm. As those accusations are being investigated, Mariah Carey chatted with New York Magazine about her 2008 moment that she now calls "extremely uncomfortable."

Back then, Mariah Carey was married to Nick Cannon and the happy couple was trying to expand their family. Prior to welcoming their twins, Moroccan and Monroe, the singer was expecting but didn't want to share her good news with the world just yet. On the show, Ellen poured glasses of champagne and told Mariah they were going to toast to not being pregnant as the audience cheered on. Not wanting to drink the alcohol, Mariah Carey felt as if she was forced to announce her pregnancy when she wasn't ready. Not long after, the singer suffered a miscarriage.

“I was extremely uncomfortable with that moment is all I can say. And I really have had a hard time grappling with the aftermath,” said Mariah. “I wasn’t ready to tell anyone because I had had a miscarriage. I don’t want to throw anyone that’s already being thrown under any proverbial bus, but I didn’t enjoy that moment.” Check out a clip of that 2008 episode below.

Kanye West Spent $50 Mil Of Yeezy Marketing Budget On Sunday Service

His fortune continues to climb as Kanye West has been named one of the richest entertainers according to Forbes. The multihyphenated artist's recent interview with Nick Cannon has many much-talked-about revelations, including the shocking amount of money that was spent to help Ye spread the gospel. In 2019, Kanye West and his Sunday Service choir were quite busy as they traveled the world, performed at festivals, and took to the stages of popular churches. Ye told Cannon that it cost him a pretty penny—pennies that eventually added up to $50 million.

The funds were spent on operas, uniforms, flights, and other expenses. “I spent every dime that I have for marketing from Yeezy on Sunday Service. Every dollar I had,” said Kanye. “I spent $50 million last year on Sunday Service if you add up the operas, if you add up the flights. It was 120 people going to Jamaica.”

“The Yeezys, they were selling themselves. Instead of paying for ads, I invested it in the church," the rapper added. "I invested in spreading gospel. I invested in saying Jesus’s name on high.” Later, Ye delivered his Christian album Jesus is King and he's said to be working on or completely finished with a project titled Donda.

Valee Drops Off His Latest Single "Rice"

Valee isn't an artist that necessarily fits a certain mold. He's paved his own path with his unique, laid-back, nonchalant delivery, and often outrageous, conversational bars. Even when they don't really makes sense, he has this ability to kind of just making anything sound dope. Such is the case with his latest song, "Rice." The rapper's latest offering was produced by KILTKARTER who cooks up a spacey, psychedelic beat for Valee.

Though backed by G.O.O.D Music, Valee's been dishing out loose singles and DIY-type videos as fans have anticipated his formal debut album. There have been a few moments where it appeared that it would arrive but unfortunately, that wasn't the case. We'll keep you posted if there's any updates on that but in the meantime, press play on Valee's latest drop below.
